Wait For You (Wait For You, #1) by J. Lynn

Description from Goodreads:

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

Wait For You was my very first book read from the New Adult genre, and when I started reading I wasn't sure what to expect. I really like Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout (J. Lynn is her second pen name), so I though I might give a try to her contemporary series. But I have to admit that I was rather sceptical: is it going be just like something from Fifty Shades of Grey? I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised that when I realised it wasn't all about kinky sex, but maybe just more daring and sensual than Young Adult books.

The book gave rather interesting portrayal to what sort of consequences a trauma can cause to a person. I'm not an expert on the intrapersonal coping of emotional trauma, but I think Lynn gave a very emotional and a raw image of what it can be. The readers are gradually let known that even though Avery might naturally be a bit introvert, there is something in her past that makes her unable to overcome her fears and let it all go. I appreciated the fact that the author didn't make all this easy for Avery - it's not that easy to get over a trauma in the real life either.

I was a bit slow to warm up for Cameron, but I think his sweet and attentive personality eventually made me to accept him being good enough for Avery. They were really good together and had undeniable chemistry between them (Lynn can really write some steamy scenes, let me tell you). Their relationship wasn't really hurried, but it was well-pace and interesting to follow. I remember thinking at times "just get together already" but of course the anticipation just makes everything sweeter, doesn't it? Nevertheless, their relationship was rather adorable, even though it didn't really provide anything extraordinary or new.

Wait For You was inarguably a bit cliché story with the insecure girl and the popular guy, and well, you know how that story ends. Nevertheless, I already expected those things to come so I was able to react to them accordingly. I can't say that the book is a literary master piece, but I did enjoy it and it made giggle from time to time. It was romantic and steamy, and those who enjoy that types of books with a mystery twist will most likely enjoy Wait For You. Sometimes  it's just nice to read something a little bit more, well not trivial, but just something less profound and deep.

  1. Considering your review and other reviews that I've read, I think this would be an "okay" read for me too. I've read a few of her books, but they all felt like copies of other series (Lux like Twilight, Covenant like Vampire Academy) and she's full of cliches, nothing original. I can't say I'm a fan and I probably won't read Wait For You. I'm still deciding on Don't Look Back...

    1. I have read only this one from her contemporary books, but I think she does better job with her paranormal books. I can see the similarities between Covenant and Vampire Academy, but not really with Lux and Twilight? :D Care to elaborate? :)

I've read pretty good reviews of Don't Look Back from pretty harsh reviewers so I think I might actually like it more than Wait for You. Not sure that I'm going to pick it up though, I have so many others waiting to be read. :)
