Waiting on Wednesday #21

Waiting on Wednesday is about sharing a book every week you cannot wait to be published. This week, I'm waiting on

Challenger Deep
by Neal Shusterman

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Mental Health

Pages: 320

Expected Publication: April 21, 2015

Publisher: HarperCollins

Description from Goodreads:

Caden Bosch is on a ship that's headed for the deepest point on Earth: Challenger Deep, the southern part of the Marianas Trench.

Caden Bosch is a brilliant high school student whose friends are starting to notice his odd behavior.

Caden Bosch is designated the ship's artist in residence, to document the journey with images.

Caden Bosch pretends to join the school track team but spends his days walking for miles, absorbed by the thoughts in his head.

Caden Bosch is split between his allegiance to the captain and the allure of mutiny.

Caden Bosch is torn.

A captivating and powerful novel that lingers long beyond the last page, Challenger Deep is a heartfelt tour de force by one of today's most admired writers for teens.

I have had this strange need to read contemporary books for some time now, so I've spent hours and hours looking for new contemporary books which will be published in the near future (I say strange, because I mostly read scifi and fantasy, so I end up quite rarely reading any contemporary books). Books handling the topic of mental health are always tricky, because usually the author completely nails it, or blows it. I've read Unwind by Shusterman before, and even though it didn't end up being my favourite book, it was really entertaining. Hopefully, Challenger Deep will be a good read too, because it sounds unique and fascinating, yet really sad too.

    1. I love the fact so many contemporary YA novels are now about mental health, it's about time that the theme is being handled in other genres besides adult fiction/non-fiction. :) Let's hope that it's as good as it promises! Thanks for stopping by!
